I'm assuming that you're taking this for autoimmune disease. I don't believe that you risk dangers like you would with suddenly stopping a beta blocker or something along those lines. 200mg is a low dose and Plaquenil is generally regarded as a mild drug anyway compared to Methotrexate, etc. Aug 26, 2016 There is no taper needed or withdrawal, but if it has been helping you, you may have increased symptoms by the time you go for your next appointment. Do you have a primary care doctor? If so, you would likely be able to get a prescription from that doctor for one month's supply to tide you over. Hello all, I am currently new to this site and ran across the discussion about stopping Plaquenil. I have been taking Plaquenil for about 8-9 months and thought that it was not helping me because I still have a fair amount of joint pain, fatigue, muscle pain and so many other issues.

Over the years on this site we have had quite a few people post that they didn't think that the plaquenil was working so they would stop taking it. I have done a lot of research on this drug and haven't run into anybody who has complained of the withdrawal effect.

I can tell you that plaquenil is the safest of all of the DMARDs. If you're going to stay on a DMARD for a long time, plaquenil is the one to be on. Best of luck on the.

Feb 19, 2020 Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial medication used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites, which enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Plaquenil is also used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. With Plaquenil, however, the most commonly prescribed anti-malarial, this sort of damage occurs only in 1 out of 5,000 people who take the drug for five years or more. For this reason though, it is important that you see an ophthalmologist for an exam before starting to take an anti-malarial medication for your lupus. Feb 19, 2020 PLAQUENIL does not prevent relapses of P. vivax or P. ovale because it is not active against the hypnozoite forms of these parasites. For radical cure of P. vivax and P. ovale infections, concomitant therapy with an 8-aminoquinoline compound is necessary see CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY - Microbiology.
