Certain types of malaria, resistant strains, and complicated cases typically require different or additional medication. It is also occasionally used for amebiasis that is occurring outside the intestines, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus erythematosus. Take chloroquine at least 2 hours before or after taking ampicillin. Chloroquine may decrease the amount of ampicillin in your body and the ampicillin may not work as well. While hydroxychloroquine is considered a relatively safe medication, like all medications there are potential risks. These include body rashes that often will itch.
