    Plaquenil and muscle stiffness

If so, how long does it take to make pain and stiffness go away? My dr is using it trying to get rid of all of my joint pain and stiffness that seems to be taking over my body. I had a pretty bad flare right after Christmas and my rheumy added methotrexate to what I was already taking. I don't know for sure if it is the plaquenil or other meds but my rheumy seems to have my inflammation/stiffness under pretty good control. Just rediced plaquenil from one tablet twice a day to one tablet once a day. I have noticed an improvement but it's very little.

Jan 22, 2020 Polymyalgia rheumatica is a form of arthritis. It causes pain in the joints and muscles of the lower back, thighs, hips, neck, shoulder and upper arms, and other parts of the body. The condition occurs when the lining surrounding the joints, bursa and tendons near the shoulders and hips becomes inflamed. I've been on it a year, reluctantly. I do not want to have to be maintained on any chemicals or pills. Now that I've been on it a year the only thing that has improved is fatigue. But I"m not sure if it's because the flare passed or because of plaquenil. I still get joint, muscle and back pain so to me it hasn't improved the pain part of it. Myositis refers to any condition causing inflammation in muscles. Weakness, swelling, and pain are the most common myositis symptoms. Myositis causes include infection, injury, autoimmune conditions, and drug side effects. Treatment of myositis varies according to the cause.

He encouraged me to stay with it 3-4 months in order to get the full effect of any help I may receive. However, I think I may be getting migraines from it?! Just remember everyone has a different reaction to the various meds. I don't know if the plaq or MTX or prednisone is what's helping. Plaquenil takes quite a long time to get to its peak effectiveness: depending on what you read, anywhere from 3 months to a year. I also take Cimzia injections bi-weekly but that has only been for about 6 months. Although I do have to give credit to my rheumy because after just a month or two I wanted to be taken off the Cimzia as I didn't think it was really doing much. Hi brandi, I tried Plaquenil, unfortunately for me the side effects is what took me off of it. The kind where I wanted to scratch every inch of my skin off. Took about a week of taking 2 kinds of allergy meds before I got rid of that effect. I have 2 days a week, after my MTX, where I'm just sick. I've been on the MTX now for about a month and when I see my rheumy in 2 weeks I'm going to see if I can try something else or stop taking it.

  3. I agree with CameronC and all others who are "pro" Plaquenil. I was diagnosed with Limited Systemic Scleroderma in late 2001 & started Plaquenil at the beginning of 2002. Joint and muscle pain and overwhelming fatigue were my worst symptoms.

Home remedies for joint pain and stiffness include taking a warm shower or bath, or applying a heating pad or ice pack. Apply ice if your joint is inflamed. Rest can also relieve these two common lupus symptoms. Avoid putting weight on the affected joint, or performing any activity that stresses it, and support it with a pillow or cushion. Muscle weakness also may be a side effect of certain drugs used to treat lupus and related conditions, including prednisone and other corticosteroids, cholesterol-lowering drugs and hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil®. Therefore, drug-induced muscle disease should be ruled out as a cause of weakness if you are taking any of these medications, as drug-induced muscle weakness usually does not produce elevated levels of muscle enzymes as is seen in lupus myositis. Plaquenil Hydroxychloroquine belongs to a group of medications known as anti-inflammatories and antimalarials. It is used alone or in combination with other anti-arthritic medications to treat rheumatoid arthritis. It helps to reduce pain, stiffness, and swelling in joints.

Plaquenil Updates eyeupdate Since prescribing doctors are generally aware of the retinotoxic potential of these drugs, patients are usually requested to see an eye doctor for baseline evaluation and follow-up surveillance. Most patients are placed on Plaquenil, the slightly less toxic of the two. The usual dosage is two 200mg tablets per day.
