Running fevers since going off plaquenil

So far I have no more energy than when I first started and has developed neuropathy which I have just found out from Web MD that this neuropathy is one of the side effects of this med! Saying that by stopping this it would take another 6 months to build up the benefit. There are other meds that can help with what you are experiencing, and if your doctor didn't address that then I would seek out a second opinion... Please don't stop your plaquenil until you are sure it is the right thing to do and in your best interest.

So that's the update. The lesson here is - for those who need to go off plaquenil, be careful about just going off it cold turkey. Obviously some of CAN do that, but if you don't know if you're one of them - better to be on the safe side and wean slowly. Take it from me! I am feeling much better after bumping my dose back up over the last few. I recently decided to stop taking Plaquenil because I was having constant chest pains even more so than I usually have due to Lupus. Since I have not taken it my chest feels so much better which is odd because chest pain is not listed as a side effect. Also I noticed that the Plaquenil I think was making me feel different but not in a good way. It works well on the more systemic side effects of RA e.g. pericarditis, pleuritis, fevers, etc. which is why Plaq is also used with lupus patients. I've been on it for about 2 1/2 years now, and won't stop unless I have to since it works well for me, it's cheap, easy to take oral tablet only twice a day, and I'm past the worst of the side.

Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. Or maybe another doctor if you're not comfortable w/your current one.

  4. Plaquenil and other antimalarials are the key to controlling lupus long-term, and some lupus patients may be on Plaquenil for the rest of their lives. For this reason, you can think of antimalarials as a sort of “lupus life insurance.”

Aug 29, 2014 Several risk factors may increase the likelihood of retinal toxicity from Plaquenil such as, age of greater than 60 years, daily dose more than 6.5 mg/kg; use of the drug more than 5 years, obesity, preexisting retinal disease and, renal or liver failure. The Monday after Thanksgiving I went to my GP and she sent me to my Dermatologist immediately. I told him i felt like it was from the Plaquenil he agreed. I came off of it that day and my symptoms have gotten worse. I have had biopsies of my skin but still waiting for the results. I was told this is going to take over a month to get out of my. Plaquenil is generally well-tolerated, but side effects are possible. Common side effects linked to Plaquenil include nausea and diarrhea. Taking the medication with food eases nausea for most people taking the drug. Less common side effects include skin rashes, hair thinning, and weakness.

Hey, anyone seen improvements or gotten well using an alternative to Tindamax? The combo of doxy tinidazole kills them all, but doxy Plaquenil combo leaves them in cyst forms just like doxy does. My LLND said it helps reduce the incidence of a relapse though so it must help. This is what Buhner said about cyst when asked: Stephen’s response:"Thanks for all your kind comments; I am glad the book is helping.
